COMUE UBFC

Community of universities and establishments

In an ever-more demanding national and international context, it is now clear that it is necessary to define and implement a coherent strategy. This construction has been put in place with the political players from a variety of organisations, and also with the community of personnel and students in the Burgundy and Franche-Comté regions.

The creation of the University of Burgundy Franche-Comté (UBFC) is the outcome of a consensual collective effort at the service of a shared ambition for the future of higher education and research in Burgundy and Franche-Comté. The communities of founding establishments have been consulted regularly since the launch of this initiative to create closer ties. With the creation of UBFC, the already numerous collaborations - regarding both training and research - are going to be strengthened in the framework of a policy that will be built together, and enable new projects to emerge.

UBFC's missions

UBFC will orchestrate the higher education and research strategy at the level of Franche-Comté and Burgundy: it will take on responsibility for ensuring the coherence of the training offered throughout this region, in close collaboration with the research activities that it will be in charge of coordinating and boosting, thus helping to maintain a multidisciplinary approach and strengthen research excellence. Right from the time of its creation, a shared scientific signature will be put in place. Once the next contract is signed, it will be able to award doctorates as well as grant accreditation for directing research projects.

UBFC will also coordinate its member establishments’ different policies (digital, internationalisation, student entrepreneurship, dissemination of scientific culture, etc. ) and lead transversal initiatives relative to student life and disability situations, thus strengthening these establishments’ capacity to always better accomplish the public service missions entrusted to them by law (initial and continuous training, scientific and technological research, disseminating and enhancing its results, career orientation and professional integration, disseminating culture and scientific and technical information, contributing to the construction of the European higher education and research space, international cooperation).

This body will constitute a powerful lever for lifting the region’s attractiveness by stimulating the socio-economic and cultural development of Franche-Comté and Burgundy. Furthermore, it will reinforce the national and international visibility of higher education and research in both regions.

Lastly, UBFC will lead projects for shaping higher education and research in Burgundy and Franche-Comté, in particular through “Investments for Future” projects.
